How expensive is Titanium Nitride (TiN)?
I was looking to use this process as a possible alternative to anodizing in order to get a better color match and was wondering if it would be prohibitively expensive. Is this on par with anodizing or how does it compare to powder coating. Looking to coat a variety of gears, tubes, wheels, and other misc parts.
It is critical to specify what material your parts are made from in order to select an optimal coating solution. Generally speaking, titanium nitride coatings have the same wear and corrosion properties as anodization.
A precise cost estimate is impossible without specific information regarding parts characteristics, batch size. However, it is safe to say that titanium nitride coating would be more expensive than anodizing due to the complexity of the process involving a vacuum environment and high energy consumption.
