My 2-month old laptop keeps overheating after upgrading to 64-bit from 32-bit, is this normal? Is there a fix?
Since I upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit my laptop (which is btw brand new) keeps over-heating. I have it on a FLAT SURFACE (My desk) WITH NOTHING covering the air holes, vents exc. My laptop is the ONLY thing on my desk.
When I had 32-bit, everything ran perfectly. But after seeing benchmarks of 64-bit, I decided to upgrade.
Well, Now I cant even watch youtube videos without my laptop overheating and shutting down w/o warning. I used Speedfan to tell the temptures. My CPU (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core processor @ 2.0ghz) reaches 190F from watching youtube videos for 10 minuntes. I have:
Installed latest drivers.
Scanned for viruses with 4 online scans, ESET NOD32 and malwarebytes. (Nothing found)
Made sure nothing was using my CPU/Making the CPU overload (Nothing)
So whats the problem? Is there a fix? I went into BIOS but it was just generic information. NOTHING about cooling/temperature.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thank you!
How much RAM do you have? If you have about 3 GB and the system continues to over heat you may want to go back to 32 bit; however if you have 4GB its recommended to use the 64 bit OS. I am not aware of any issues with the 64 bit operating systems and I have 64 bit of Windows 7 on my desktop and I haven't experienced any heat issues with my Quad core. You can try searching forums or Microsoft's support site to see if its a problem with the OS. It sounds more like a hardware issue.

Great receiver at a great price!!,
Was looking for a quality 5.1 receiver to replace my non functional 8 year old Sony receiver. Saw a similar unit like this at Best Buy and really like the sound. The unit I saw at BB was kind of high and same here until I saw this unit. Couldn't beat the $149 price on this unit for what it had to offer. Biggest selling points to me for this product was all the latest sounds like True HD and DTS-HD. The 4 HDMI ports made my hooks ups a lot less clustered and now I can actually use the HDMI on my cable box to watch TV. Now I have the TV hooked up to the HDMI AV connection and my Blu-Ray player and set to box hooked up via HDMI, so no more component and extra audio cable not needed anymore. The YPAO microphone set up was a breeze for the most part. Had to tweek it a bit to get the subwoofer working, but I found out how to do that in the instructions. The menu on this unit is a bit confusing and it's even more frustration using the manual. Not very easy to figure out at first, but I finally figured out how they explain the menus now. Sound is great testing Transformers 2 and Avatar. Sounds way better than my older system and it's taking advantage of all my JBL speakers now.
The 6240BL Is a great buy. Exc Value for $$$
Others have gone into the technical pros and cons in great depth - so I won't even try. For my money tho' this Yamaha is an excellent buy. The hook up combinations are amazing and the sound/video quality are just fantastic. Now that we are done with Cable/Satellite and just watch online via our PC and Roku/Hulu/Netflix, all the HDMI outlets are a godsend. I didn't tell my husband what I paid for it and his guess was $700 - he now thinks I'm a genius!
Try one, you won't be sorry.
